I looked this up on the internet a Microsoft page came up and it instructed that any question to Microsoft will cost me $49.

Both Sony and Microsoft are in the console war, and it seems to be PS3 pulling to the lead now! What with it's superior graphics and Blu-Ray, why doesn't Microsoft just go with the Dual-Layer HD DVD disks?! It would make the 360's graphics skyrocket past PS3 graphics! I don't think you understand what would have to happen if Microsoft used HD-DVD for it's games.

For Microsoft to use HD-DVD for it's games, a HD-DVD drive would have to be installed in the Xbox 360 and Microsoft would have to re-release the Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 owners would have to buy a new Xbox 360 for a MUCH HIGHER price. If Microsoft installed HD-DVD in the Xbox 360, the cheapest Xbox 360 would probably be the same exact price as the 40GB PS3 right now.

Microsoft was STUPID from the beginning because they missed their chance to use HD-DVD in the Xbox 360 before the PS3 came out, but Microsoft didn't want to take the risk with HD-DVD so Sony put Blu-Ray in the PS3 and that's when everything started to change.

All the Xbox 360 fanboys were talking how Blu-Ray would fail, but look at it now. Blu-Ray will clearly be the winner of the format war and HD-DVD is almost dead as it is. It's little too late the Xbox 360 and HD-DVD.

I have found a working patch to install Microsoft Windows Vista on 256MB RAM although my hard drive contains a volume of 3.5 GB (Gigabytes) I would like to install Microsoft Windows Vista onto my 30GB IPod as an external hard drive. Computer technician here.....No. You would need to have a bigger hard drive in your laptop in order to have Windows Vista to work properly. Also, this can also depend on the CPU you have for speed. Microsoft has stated that in order to have Windows Vista installed, the minimum requirements are to have at least 512 MB of memory, 40 GB hard drive and 800 MHz in CPU speed. Bigger hard drives for laptops can be found on ebay for real cheap now. Hope this helps.

UPDATE: That is true, but when Microsoft says the minimum size hard drive is 40 GB, they mean not just the Windows Vista files, but also extra space so that you can put additional software on it such as an Anti-virus and other security-related software, plus, the Windows Update security patches that gets installed as well. They require some space too.

It is possible that there was a trial version of Office at one time or it came pre-loaded on the system and you did not realize it.

Go to the Control Panel and Add/Remove programs and look and see if Microsoft Office is in the list. If so, remove it and reinstall your copy.
I've seen them installed together but if you are going to be installing Office, there is really no reason to keep Works around anyways.

I tryed to set up virtual pc 2007 on my computer. I downloaded the software directly from microsoft and started installing microsoft windows 98 on my computer. Soon after the blue screen of death came fllashing across my screen. I got in and uninstalled all the software and files that had already been installed, then repaired all the windows files with my set up disc (please note i repaired, i didn't reformat.) everything was working fine until i went to install updates. It downloaded them all but it wont install them! I checked the microsoft website for help and all it told me was to delete some files then install activeX 6. Well it didn't work and im still stranded without important updates. I really dont want to reformat unless it comes down to that (please dont let it.) Any help at all is greatly appreciated. They're not that important, critial updates can be downloaded manually, but they're not needed for Win98 to operate.

This could be a major issue, when you repair, most programs and UPDATES will not work in this case, as the computer believes they are still installed when infact the files are still there. Best chance, reformat and start Windows over. It will be a lot less painful than trying to fix this.
I think the only thing you can do is reformat it.

Try this: Go into the Control Panel (under Settings on the Start Menu), select the ''Display'' icon, select the ''Settings'' tab and change the ''Color palette'' box.

The color depth of the displayed image refers to how many bits of information are used to represent the color of each pixel. The more colors that are used, the better the quality of the image, but of course there are other factors that trade off against image quality.
The 2nd image I see is Windows Vista. Maybe you can check your screen settings and the colors.

Try and uninstall it in safe mode, this will only load necessary file and this should allow you to clear off your PC. START the PC than keep pressing F8 until the safe mode option pops up. You do NOT need a receipt.

I have had to send mine in for repairs already.

When you call and speak to an agent, they will ask for the serial number on the back, so either write it down or take the unit with you to the phone. And as long as you didn't mess with the Microsoft silver sticker under the faceplate you are fine.

The serial number tells them when you purchased the unit, so there is no need for a receipt.

Also, it may take a while to get someone, but the call is free so just be patient.

MS has the new policy where they will replace or repair any 360 that has the red ring of death for 3 years from the date of purchase. Now, the 360 came out on Nov. 2005. It is now July 2007. That's less than 3 years, so you should still be under warranty.

If you call MS and the agent says you need a receipt, ask her when the 360 was released, and then ask her what date it would be 3 years from the date that she gave you. Now ask her again, if you need a receipt. My guess is that she'll say no.

Reguardless of whether Vista is good or bad doesn't matter -- XP is done (will be soon) and if you don't want to use a MAC or to run a Linux dist. your only choice is VISTA. With updates and so forth it will continue to grow and get better. I see what you are saying and I'm no expert in corporate law, however just to play devils advocate one could argue that by opening the market to new OS it would make all our current programs Microsoft only. take lynx for example, until recently if you had lynx you could not just go down to the store and buy a game for your PC, I think the problem is much deeper then just Microsoft, its the entire PC industry, MAC is another example, all those mac commercials tell you all the things u can do with a MAC but they never mention gaming. my BF2 or other games simply wont work on a MAC. as you probably guessed I'm a gamer not a program er, so I don't know what it would take to make the change but it has to go alot deeper then just Microsoft. perhaps the answer you are looking for is Free Upgrades from one upgrade to the next for current Microsoft OS users , But I could be wrong! that's just my opinion on it.

There was an anti-trust case against Microsoft in the late 1990s. However, when Bush took office he and his people pretty much dropped that like a hot potato. The EU has taken some legal action against MS, but that won't happen in the US under the Republicans.

You can download the Office 2007 Beta off Microsoft website %26 run it. When it brings up the list of programs it will install I think (at least it was possible with Office2003) you'll have the option to select/deselect whatever is needed or not needed.

When you install office it should ask you if you want it or not. You have to un check it.
At one point, Microsoft sold Outlook separately, but I haven't seen the stand alone package in years.

It doesn't, by default, show Word documents in the File-Open diaglogue but if you change the .RTF to .DOC it will open them for you.

I need to ask what some may think is a very amateur question. I am very much a beginner with computers and recently bought the software called ''Microsoft Office-Home %26 Student 2007'' so that I could convert a movie-script I am writing from just fooling around with an old typewriter to something that looks professional. Question; this software does so many different things that it is confusing me...I know all I need to use for my purpose is Microsoft Word but, can anyone tell me which font most closely resembles ''typewriter-type'' script or, even better, are there any writers out there who can tell me exactly which fonts are used when submitting a professional manuscript to a publisher? As far as MS Word / MS Office books are concerned... go to your local Borders or Barnes and Noble. They will probably have no less than 50 books, specifically dealing with Word and the other office applications. Next download jv16 powertools to do a search in your registry for it and get rid of it there. The program is shareware, but you can fully use it for 30 days:

I'm interested in purchasing Microsoft's Flight Simulator, however, I'm not sure if I should purchase Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2004 or their new FSX. And, I would appreciate recommendations for a joystick for flight simulator.

I agree with Justin, you can run FS2004 on most systems in use today and get a good flight experience, FSX however, does like some horse power so unless you have a fairly new system or plan to upgrade expect some ugly performance on any system more than a year or two old. I use an HP media center with a Dual Core CPU, 4 GB of RAM (2 gb will work fine) and an ATI 2600 Pro Video card - a GOOD video card is a must, something with at least 256 meg of memory. I happen to use Vista Ultimate, but XP works very well (might even be a little better for FSX), I believe the biggest factor with FSX is the Video card, if you are using an on board card you can expect ''performance issues''. You can get a mid range Video Card now for $100.00 - $150.00 (or less in some places) which will make a huge difference.

The Joystick is really a personal choice IMHO, I use a Saitek X52 and I love it (still using a Beta driver for Vista but it works), it really depends on how much $$$ you want to spend and how much time you plan to spend ''Flying the Friendly Skies''. The X52 has plenty of programable buttons and a seperate throttle which is very nice especially if you like jets and military aircraft. Saitek also make a less expensive ''Aviator'' stick with a dual throttle control built into the base of the stick which is perfect for general aircraft and a great stick to start with. There are many other choices but I have not tried them so I can't comment, although I have seen many great comments on CH products so if you have the CA$H to spend you should check that brand as well.

You could see if Works will allow you to save the document in Word format. With the document open, click File =%26gt; Save As, and see if Word is in the drop-down list of file types to save it as.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to obtain and install Word, or make special arrangements with your instructor (if they have Word, it's possible that they would be able to have their copy of Word convert your documents from Works =%26gt; Word format when they open them).

Now to get you a program that works you have two options buy microsft office 150.00$ are you can go online www.openoffice.org this is a free program and allows you to open and edit all office programs such as word,excel etc. I am using it now because i did not want to spend the 150.00$ it works fine just a generic name. hope this helps.

It's likely that your version of Microsoft Works can save files as Microsoft Word DOC files (File | Save As | Save As Type | .DOC) .

Older versions of Microsoft Works do not have this feature, but since your software came with a new computer you should be fine.

If you want to install Microsoft Word/Office, go right ahead and it should also be able to save and edit DOC files.

Honestly, I don't think it will help you unless you are competing for a specific job with a high-profile company. Your best bet is to get back into work, even if it's a little lower on the totem pole than what you were, just so you can start putting things on your resume. These recruiters now only care that are working and having working experience. Once you get in a company, you can let them pay for your certification.

Okay so I saved a few documents in Microsoft Word 2007 and I want to transfer them to a Microsoft Woks program. The files are saved on my jumpdrive in Microsoft Word 2007 format. Correct me if im wrong but you can save those documents in different types of compatibility formats cant you? Open one of the documents and click the Windows circle thing and click ''Save As'', you should see a few different options on how you want to save that particular document. If the 2000-2003 version is there, that just might work with Microsoft Works.

I don't know about the new version, but I have an older version of StarOffice (pre-XP). For comparable versions of Star and MS, the Sun product was faster. It was also cross compatible - files from MS could be opened, manipulated, and saved. I could even save changed files back to MS and then open them in MS, no problems. If I need to buy an updated product, I'd go with the Sun StarOffice.

Office 2003, will definitely work on Microsoft Vista, but If you do install Office 03 I would recommend upgrading it constantly with Microsoft live update.

But instead of going through all the trouble of installing and updating the Office 03 (which to say the least is out-dated), I would recommend you get the much better and more up to date Office 2007.

It is great in many ways, and it'll take me all day to write about all its great features.

So just go out there and get your self a brand new Office 2007 and believe me you'll wonder why you wanted Office 2003 in the first place.

Ok so i recently had my computer whiped (i had some random virus) and the computer man saved all my documents and stuff i was like ok thanks =D i went to go log on and look around, install stuff, when i notice all the microsoft office programs in my programs. Anyway onto the problem, now everytime i click to go onto the internet this annoying box keeps popping up and tells me to insert the microsoft professional disk. Apparently, the installation of Office is not completed yet.

The only way to fix it AND use office - is to ask your computer man if you can borrow the disk for 10 minutes.

If you don`t want office - you must uninstall it.

I'm referring to my work computer. Other applications load fine, even other Microsoft applications. I have an 80 GB Hard Drive and have 65 GB free. In my Task Manager, under the processes tab, Microsoft Outlook uses around 250,000 K of Mem Usage. I consider myself relatively computer savvy, but outside of a complete hard-drive reformatting, I've done everything I can.

Whenever I get new mail I immediately make a hard copy and delete the mail from my inbox. My Inbox, Sent, Deleted, etc. are all cleaned out on a daily basis, and my Outlook still takes a hellishly long time to load.

My guess is that you may have a corrupt mail profile on your system. I can't recall if Outlook 2000 uses an OST file on the local hard drive or not. You may want to create an alternate email profiles via Control Panel %26gt; Mail and see if using the new profile changes the performance.

Additionally, Outlook may need to be reinstalled.

No it hasn't being redesigned yet and yes they are made of components from allover so the disc errors still happen (it's not better). If you didin't know 360 have a high return rate(33%) and though MS has upgraded the warranty make sure that store will exchange it for you or you will have to ship it back and forth to whatever nearest MS warranty depot is near you. It is a gamble.

Yes the elite is ...well elite compared to the original 360. But does that mean we should have to pay 拢300 for it or 拢130 with a part exchange. I think microsoft left a few details out of the original 360. AKA. XBOX 360 BETA edition. The Aero effect will work on your hardware but it will definitely slow down your PC, 512 MB of RAM is good for Basic version but you need at least 1 GB of RAM to work properly with Windows Aero interface.

Basically Aero effects need a Direct X 9.0 Compatible Graphic hardware and as per your PC your configuration you have it, you can go for Home premium version after upgrading your RAM to 1 GB.

okay so here's the deal: I got microsoft office 2003 of a 60 day trial on my laptop when I bought it. I bought a CD of office at school because I got a really good deal. I installed it when my free trial went out. Now I have two microsoft offices on my computer: the standard edition and the professional edition. So here's my questions:

Well at this moment...i just got a refurbished one from microsoft cuz i have the same problem. But just 2 seconds ago....it died on me again and im on the phone with them at this minute.
Of course it's legal.

the only reason why they gave you a refurb, is that they don't want to keep you waiting for months for your console to get fixed.

the reason why they don't give everyone new ones is because it's a Repair Center, not a warehouse. they don't always have new consoles.

The refurbs are always tested before they get shipped out. If it's giving you issues, contact xbox support right away.
um... what part of repair don't you understand, it takes time to fix the console so they send you someone else's fixed console. (most people don't have problems)

Yes, it's the temporary file. When you open a file, you're actually opening it in that temporary file to protect the original file from accidental corruption. The autosave data is also contained in that file. It will not go unless you do normal exit from Word, and that is to recover the autosaved data from power failure.

Basically you can't fix what you can't find.... Microsoft can't find the problem...First they thought it was heat produced by the processor. Then they thought it was combined heat from the processor and heat created from game disc spin...Now that those two issues have been illiminated as the culprit it appears it is a disfunction on the motherboard itself causing the componants to warp. My personal feelings are that if Microsoft took over, then Yahoo would start losing some of the characteristics that make it easy and free for the regular person. Microsoft, IMO, tends to be more interested in the money to be gained than the needs of the average person.

What I think is when a company like Yahoo starts ignoring problems rather than fixing them it's a sign they plan to sell but I don't really like the idea of a company like Microsoft buying them because they like to charge for a person to even chat in a chat room. Plus they themselves have problems they ignore rather than fix. Yahoo has problems in the chat rooms with the sound and also with bots. Then there is the problems with yahoo 360. 360 isn't very user friendly and now can't be used as a profile for some reason. But on the other hand the other company has problems with being able to change your user name in their groups. And wow talk about not being very user friendly on windows live. They have problems too. It boils down to do you want to be charged to chat in a chat room or not?

I accidently deleted my microsoft paint program and now I'm trying to get it back. I've tried just going to the start menu and searching it and typing it in RUN, but either one is working. I heard about another way, by going into the conrol panel, then add/remove programs then clicking the add/remove windows components. I think this way would work but it says that I need the microsoft xp cd-rom. But I don't have one because my labtop came with it already preloaded. Then it tells me that I can have it copied from an alternate location like from a floppy disc or a network server. I don't have it copied to a floppy disc so I clicked 'ok' anyway to see if I could get it through a network server but that didn't work because it says that it needs files from the actual windows xp cd-rom. I need to find a way around this! Could someone please help me!

If you only deleted the shortcut, and not the program itself, you should be able to find it. Run the search function and search for mspaint.exe. On XP, it should be in the windows\system32 folder. You can try to run it by clicking Start %26gt; Run %26gt; Browse. Select My Computer and go to C:\windows\system32 and look for mspaint.exe there.
Go to Control Pannel.

I'm just wondering why practically all of us made such a big deal out of windows to begin with, when there were many other computer systems that were just as good, if not better than microsoft? I mean, was it b/c of the name Microsoft, and that's why some of us purchased it? It seems as though XP may have only been the best operating windows system microsoft designed, however I could be wrong about that. When I first heard that Mac/ Apple doesn't need any security, I couldn't believe it at first. (Although that could change down the road too) The Apple may be more expensive to buy than microsoft, but as far as I know, that's the only obstacle to overcome w/ Macintosh, and it always worked better than windows this whole, entire time. This is one of the reasons why microsoft was convicted of monopolizing the computer industry. All manufacturers had to have microsoft software in it and nothing else. They even took out netscape out of every computer in the late 90s. Of course, the bigger you are the more enemies you make and that's the reason windows operating systems contain so many security measures since so many people are trying to break through. I mean if you were a hacker would you try and hack computers with windows vista or mac 10x whatever it is? The answer is obviously Vista. One of the reasons macs are more expensive is because they are manufacture by a lower amount and economies of scale doesn't take place. For microsoft is the other way around I mean why do you think they include a 90 day trial of office 07? It's so that people will buy it in the end and that way they won't look for any other program since office has it all. You don't have to worry about sticking with windows unless you are planning on gaming a lot since you can always erase that pesky Vista and upgrade to linux ubuntu. You do have to handed to microsoft for making an operating system easy to use even for the computer handicap. Also, remember that not everyone wanted to purchase microsoft but since microsoft has such a high share in the computer os industry(around 90 percent) they have the upper hand but I wouldn't worry about them keeping it for long.
